Harmony: Between Knowledge and Dhikr

One day, Rasulullah Saw came out of his house. He went to the mosque. After walking for a long time, the Prophet found two groups gathering. The first group was seen reading the Koran and praying (remembrance) to Allah. Then the second group, they are busy studying and studying science.

Rasulullah Saw paused for a moment then said: "Both are in goodness."

Group First in goodness, because they are reading the Qur'an and praying to the Creator. If they ask Allah, if Allah wills, their prayers will certainly be answered, and vice versa, Allah will not grant their prayers if Allah is not willing to accept them.

There are groups that second. Those who are busy teaching and learning knowledge—for that is precisely what I was sent for. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) joined the second group. (Abstracted from Sunan Ibn Majah).

The story above is a mirror that is reflected to us as the people of the Prophet Muhammad. People who must not stop pursuing knowledge. Knowledge is a blessing that Allah will give to those who demand, seek and explore that knowledge. Knowledge is not given to people who are lazy in demanding it.

There are so many lessons to be learned from the fact that Islamic scholars, intellectuals, and thinkers never let a moment pass without studying and seeking knowledge. For them, knowledge is a weapon against ignorance and stupidity. It is a shield to ward off evil. With knowledge, human dignity is elevated.

Who doesn't know the friend of the Prophet Muhammad, Abdullah Bin Abbas. He is a staff expert on interpreting the Qur'an of the Prophet Muhammad. To the point that other friends always praised Ibnu Abbas' intelligence and intelligence. He was a friend who was always curious and learned from the Prophet and other friends. In fact, he himself was smarter than his other friends.

Can we, as Muslims living today, be like him? The answer is absolutely possible. Why then do we refuse to make the effort? Why do we stop studying and seeking knowledge, and "feel" we are already so smart, intelligent, and knowledgeable? When in fact, we are still very ignorant and far from those sciences.

The two groups encountered by Rasulullah SAW, namely dhikr experts, Qur'an experts and science experts are a picture of goodness who both have a goal. (taqarrab) get closer to Allah SWT. These two groups struggled with goodness and the Messenger of Allah praised and rewarded them for their goodness.

Don't humans need peace and happiness? Don't humans need the best way to get closer to God? So peace, happiness and the best way to get close to Allah is through dhikr, reading the Koran, and becoming an expert in knowledge. These two virtues are the door to goodness and become a shield for ignorance from all kinds of things that lead us to turn away from Allah SWT.

May we always strive to be the best. Strive to remember Allah and seek knowledge with every breath we take. Strive to be Muslims who remember our shortcomings. And strive to be Muslims who remain faithful to the Quran, thirsting for knowledge and goodness.
