Rasulullah SAW once said;

لَتُفتَحنَّ القُسطنطينيةُ ولنِعمَ الأميرُ أميرُم God willing

“"Constantinople will fall into the hands of Islam. The leader who conquers it is the best leader. And the troops under his command are the best troops."”

After 53 days of fighting, finally on May 29, 1435, Constantinople was conquered by a sultan who was only 29 years old. The day after the conquest of Constantinople, precisely on May 30, 1435, the sultan and his troops prepared to perform Friday prayers.

The commander, Sultan Al-Fatih, invited his teacher to lead Friday prayers. However, the teacher refused and asked him to find someone more pious than himself.

Upon hearing the teacher's refusal, Sultan Al-Fatih then went out into the courtyard of the mosque and gathered the entire army, including the Muslim population of Istanbul at that time. Sultan Al-Fatih asked his army and the people of Istanbul to stand and prepare to answer three questions that Sultan Al-Fatih would ask.

  1. Question First The question raised by the commander of Al-Fatih was, "Who among you has ever missed the five obligatory prayers to sit in their respective places?" Hearing this question, the soldiers and Muslims. Not one of them sat down. Even though the question was repeated, not a single one of the soldiers or Muslims at that time sat down. This means that not a single one of the soldiers and Muslims at that time had ever missed the five obligatory prayers.
  2. Question second, The commander of Al-Fatih said, "Who among you has ever neglected the Rawatib sunnah prayer? Let them sit in their respective places." Half of the army and the Muslim community sat down. This meant that half of them maintained or performed the Rawatib sunnah prayer.

Muslims Friday Friday, May Allah have mercy on them

  1. Question final what Sultan Al-Fatih said to his troops who were still standing was: Who among you has ever missed the Tahjjud prayer? So sit down.

Upon hearing the third question, the soldiers and the Muslim community, who were still half-standing, all sat down. Only Sultan Al-Fatih remained standing.

What is interesting is that it turns out that the leader who was able to conquer Constantinople was a leader who never missed the five daily obligatory prayers. never leave the sunnah prayer of careib and the Leader who never leave the Tahajjud prayer.

What the Prophet Muhammad had predicted, regarding the conquest of Constantinople by the best of his leaders and armies, was Islamic leadership under the command of Sultan Al-Fatih.

Why did the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) mention Constantinople? It turns out that at that time, Constantinople was being fought over by more than 19 nations around the world, and none of them succeeded in conquering it. This was due to its incredibly strategic location, requiring passage through the Bosporus Strait, and its location straddling the two continents of Europe and Asia.

And that was where the Eastern Roman Empire was at its peak. In 1435, Constantinople was finally conquered by a young man, only 29 years old, the commander Sultan Al-Fatih.

Another important point to note is that we will be discussing the issue of Muslim leadership, as Islam is not just a religion concerned with worship. It is both a religion and a civilization.

Islam deals with worship of God, and deals with the lives of Muslims in all its aspects.

This means that Islam also considers politics, economics, and family relationships. It considers welfare, culture, and social issues. And there is not a single aspect of life that is untouched by Islamic teachings.

Therefore, Islam is life, with good manners..

Leadership in Islam is also the responsibility of all Muslims, a very popular and very clear hadith reminds us.

“Remember, each of you is a leader and each of you will be asked about your leadership.”

“Kullukum Raa'in, Wakullukum Mas'ulun 'an Raiyyatihi‘ (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim)

The husband is the leader of his family, and he will be held accountable.

A woman is the leader of her husband's household and her children, and she will be held accountable for her leadership.

And remember, that each of you is a leader and will be asked to account for your leadership.

This means that every Muslim is a leader, no matter how small the thing he leads is.

Muslim Community Friday Prayer Congregation Rahimakumullah

One of the characteristics of a leader is a person who has faith and does good deeds. In Al-Quran Surah Nur verse 55 Allah says:

وَعَدَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مِنكُمْ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ لَيَسْتَخْلِفَنَّهُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ كَمَا ٱسْتَخْلَفَ دِينَهُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ

“And Allah has promised those among you who believe and do righteous deeds that He will surely make them rulers on earth, as He made those before them rulers, and will surely establish for them their religion which He has chosen for them.”

So in reality, people who are leaders among Muslims are people who have faith and do good deeds.

This means that these people have confidence in Allah who is supreme among their people. It is truly the person who has the most faith who has the right to be the leader of the Muslim community.

Apart from that, there are people who, if we confirm their leadership, that is, this ummah must choose leaders on earth, those who uphold prayers, pay Zakat, tell Amar Ma'ruf nahi Mungkar. This means, leading those who command goodness and preventing evil.

This is explained in Quran Surah Al-Haj verse 41.

The Muslims, may Allah have mercy on them.

So, a leader not only manages a country, institution, or organization, but also personally leads or acts as an Imam during prayer, pays Zakat, and enjoins good and forbids evil.

Because a leader who does these three things will be far from sinful acts, and sin will be kept away from the environment he leads.

A leader who establishes prayer will certainly not engage in corruption. Because prayer reflects obedience and faith in Allah SWT.

Apart from that, leaders must also be honest, because the Messenger of Allah emphasized, "There is no one whom Allah has entrusted to lead the people, then when he dies he still deceives his people but Allah will certainly forbid him Heaven."“

The reward of a leader is indeed great, but the sins of a leader are also very great. Then, a leader must also be fair. Rasulullah SAW said, "There are 7 groups of people who are given shade by Allah, on a day where there is no shade except his own. Among them is a just leader."“

It turns out that the reward of a leader among Muslims is very high. However, if you commit unfair actions, such as not giving rights to the people you lead, then the retribution will also be very cruel.

The Muslim congregation performs Friday prayers. May Allah have mercy on them.

Furthermore, Rasulullah SAW said; “"Indeed, those who act justly, in the sight of Allah, will be placed on a platform of light, they are those who are just in respect of the law towards the family, and in whatever is authorized over them."”

It turns out to be very high, maqam a leader who is just and devoted to Allah.

Therefore, the Prophet's prophecy regarding Sultan Al-Fatih's victory truly shows that, with his faith and righteous deeds, Sultan Al-Fatih was able to conquer the immense Roman Empire. The Roman Empire was fought over by 19 nations of the world, and none succeeded. Except, it was successfully conquered by a 29-year-old commander. A very young age, but he was a man of faith and righteous deeds, and feared Allah SWT.

So in fact, leadership in Islam must be held by people who believe and do good deeds and trust. Not a pious person. Because not all pious people are able to hold the mandate of leadership, because in the story a friend of the prophet named Abu Zar Al-Gifari asked the Messenger of Allah.

“"O Rasulullah... didn't you give me a position, then the Messenger of Allah, patted Abu Zar Al-Gifari on the shoulder, and said, Hi... Abu Zar, you are a weak person, and that position is a mandate, which on the Day of Resurrection, will be regret and humiliation. Unless it is carried by people who can fulfill their rights and obligations and fulfill their responsibilities."”

We know that Abu Zar Al-Gifari is a person who pious, but the Prophet said, that thereligious leader Abu Zar is not necessarily, according to his strength in holding the mandate.

So not all scholars have the ability to become an Umaro'.

Ultimately, when we talk about leadership, we are talking about Islamic civilization or natural civilization. Islamic civilization must aim for one mission, namely, a civilization that is Rahmatan Lil alamin. Which is friendly to all groups and fair to all religions. And based on words and devotion to Allah SWT.

Dear Guests, May Allah have mercy on you..

After we have explained what the characteristics of a leader in Islam are, we can conclude that a leader in Islam should ideally be a leader who has strong faith and high levels of good deeds.

A leader is someone who is personally obedient to God and facilitates the community's obedience to God.

We pray that Allah will give our nation a leader who is just and trustworthy, has faith and does good deeds. Amen, O Lord of the worlds
