Gratitude is feeling content with what Allah SWT has given us. Feeling content with what we have. Always thinking that Allah is always fair in all aspects of our lives. So without us realizing it, the word "gratefulness" is used. ā"Alhamdulillahi rabbil alamin"ā come out of our mouths spontaneously.
The word came out without force, even under any circumstances. We still try to be human beings who must not forget God's gifts to us. Maybe this is what is called an expression ā'nature'ā. We as weak humans, unconsciously praise the Almighty for everything.
When we live as poor people, be grateful! When we live in poverty, be grateful! When we live in a cloud of wealth, then be grateful! When we want to be human beings whose lives are full of wisdom, then be grateful!.
If we want to be happy, we should be grateful! This is how a servant should respond to every life problem that comes our way.
Gratitude is a reflection of a Muslim's personality. Many Muslims live without being grateful, forgetting the One who gives them blessings. They only express gratitude when they are blessed with wealth, overcome adversity, find a new job, go on the Hajj pilgrimage, are accepted into a new school, or after graduating, are able to buy a new car, motorcycle, house, or hold a new position or rank. And so on.
Is this what gratitude is? The answer is yes. It is. However, gratitude at this level is commonplace and within reasonable limits. There is a higher level of gratitude than the gratitude mentioned above.
This level involves being grateful and accepting everything God has given us, regardless of the circumstances. For example, lack of wealth, poverty, persistent illness, constant calamities, and yet another blessing. And so on.
So, this second level of gratitude is even more rewarding than the first. Because not everyone can receive the second level of gratitude. This is something we must always remember: that we must remain grateful in any and all circumstances.
Let's not become ungrateful just because we aren't blessed with abundant wealth and our lives are always difficult. When we are grateful in these circumstances, we will attain a high standing before Allah SWT.
"If you are grateful for My blessings, I will increase those blessings to you"
QS. Ibrahim Verse 7
And Allah knows best
