Islamic Revival: Contemporary and Contemporary Realities

Interesting expressions from Sheikh Yusuf al-Qardhawi (may Allah have mercy on him) about the revival of Islam. He explained it like this:

"The characteristic of the contemporary Islamic revival is not only based on enthusiasm, verbal expressions, or slogans, but rather a revival that is based on a commitment to Islam and its customs, even its sunnah." That's what he said in the book'As-shahwatul Islâmiyah ru'yatu nuqadiyatu minal dâkhilî' (The Awakening of Islam in Discussions of Experts. Gema Insani Press, 1998. 39-40).

When viewed from a contemporary perspective, the Islamic revival is greeted with great optimism, particularly by the younger generation of believers. Today's young believers are raising new hopes for the progress and revival of Islam. This is marked by their active involvement in the mission and vision of propagating Islam as both a religion and a civilization.

Not just a contemporary and contemporary discourse, today's young believers are trying to tariqah (way) each of them to jihad da'wahIn Indonesia, for example, the method of Islamic preaching carried out by young believers is by improving mosques, which has given rise to the 'congregational dawn prayer movement' of young Muslims, Islamic studies, and so on.

The emergence of this program has significantly influenced the rise of Islam, particularly in Indonesia. At first glance, the "youth hijrah" program, or "congregational dawn prayer movement," highlights that the main problem facing the Muslim community today is the problem of prayer among the younger generation, particularly the dawn prayer. Why not a movement for the midday, afternoon, evening, and night prayers? Because these prayers are easy for believers to perform.

As for the morning prayer, many people neglect it and carry it out in mosques, especially by young believers. The big problem that is hitting villages, surau in villages and even in big cities today is the awareness of the believers to make mosques prosperous at dawn.

This is the basic principle of Sheikh Yusuf Qardhawi's message above: commitment to Islam should not be limited to mere slogans and verbal shouts. Rather, it must be followed by the etiquette and traditions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). manners and if this sunnah is carried out properly and correctly, it will have a positive impact on the progress and revival of Islam.

The biggest challenge for believers today is complex. However, if these challenges are not faced with strong determination, courage, commitment (istiqomah), the problems and challenges will become even more severe. Challenges and trials do not necessarily make the souls of believers inferior (low self-esteem). Nothing is impossible, if Allah wills.

It would be so easy for Allah to make Islam triumph over all else. However, Allah wants to see the efforts of the believers, whether they are truly committed to Islam or not. Whether they truly want to defend Islam or, conversely, weaken it.

Not only in Indonesia, but the Islamic revival is also rife in various countries, particularly in Europe. In fact, Islam is the fastest-growing religion in the world. Islam is currently gaining popularity in European society, and is being seriously studied by Western intellectuals.

This is the data research 2024 issued by Pew Research Center, an American nonpartisan think tank based in Washington, D.C. The research center releases information on trends in social issues, public opinion, and demographics in the United States and the world.

The revival of Islam has indeed been discussed by Muslim experts and scholars in the 20th century. Thus, it is possible that Islam will once again lead and be victorious, even if on the one hand and in other countries Islam faces opposition, marginalization and even war.
