One quiet morning, Fajar sat pensively on his porch. The light rain from the previous night still left droplets of water falling from the roof tiles. Fajar's thoughts were racing. A few days ago, he lost his job after the company he worked for went bankrupt. Amidst his responsibilities as head of the family, the loss was a heavy blow for Fajar.
āOh God, why did you give me this test when I still have to support my family?ā he muttered softly, unable to hide the disappointment that weighed on his heart.
That afternoon, Fajar decided to take a walk in the park near his house. There, he saw an old man sitting on a bench, a small book in his hand. The man appeared calm despite his frail body. Fajar decided to approach him.
āAssalamu'alaikum, Sir,ā said Fajar.
āWa'alaikumussalam,ā the old man replied kindly. āYou look confused, son. Is there anything I can help you with?ā
Fajar took a deep breath. "I just lost my job, sir. It feels so hard. I feel like my world is crumbling."
The old man smiled faintly and nodded slowly. "Every human being will be tested, son. There are difficult times in life, and that's normal. But, did you know, behind every disaster there is always a hidden lesson?"
Fajar was silent, trying to digest the old man's words.
āYou know,ā continued the man, āAllah SWT says in the Koran:
ŁŁŲ„ŁŁŁŁ Ł
ŁŲ¹Ł Ų§ŁŁŲ¹ŁŲ³ŁŲ±Ł ŁŁŲ³ŁŲ±ŁŲ§Ų Ų„ŁŁŁŁ Ł
ŁŲ¹Ł Ų§ŁŁŲ¹ŁŲ³ŁŲ±Ł ŁŁŲ³ŁŲ±ŁŲ§
'Indeed, after difficulties there is ease, indeed after difficulties there is ease.' (QS. Al-Insyirah: 5-6).ā
Fajar lowered his head, trying to contemplate the meaning of the verse. The old man continued, "Don't wallow in sorrow too much, son. Perhaps God has something better in store for you, but you must remain patient and seek the wisdom."
That day, the old man's words were like dew cooling Fajar's heart. He returned home feeling calmer. The next day, Fajar decided not to give up. He began seeking new opportunities and more diligently drawing closer to Allah SWT. He was convinced that behind the calamity he experienced, Allah had prepared something better.
Two months later, Fajar was accepted into a better company than his previous one. His two months of unemployment actually made him more patient, more diligent in his work, and more grateful for every blessing he received.
"Indeed, Allah never burdens a person beyond his capacity." Fajar muttered, remembering the lesson he learned from the old man in the park.
"Catastrophes are doors of wisdom that Allah opens for His patient servants. For verily, after hardship comes ease."
