Actualization of Islamic Social Values for National Integrity

In the book The Clash of Civilization and the Remarking of The World Order, Samuel P. Huntington wrote a reflection on the immense value and contribution of Islam to the development of world civilization. He stated, "The only civilization that can silence the West in every aspect of life and that can defeat the West is Islamic civilization.".

As a non-Muslim political scientist, he honestly told the Western world that it was Islam that had made the West learn a lot. This is a recognition by historical actors of the peace and beauty of Islam in regulating order and togetherness within the framework of "Civilization" which has been exemplified by its predecessors.

In this regard, from a social and societal perspective, Islam is strengthened by a magnet called values. These values are what shape a society that can live side by side without mutual contempt. To further clarify this, the author will briefly present an essay on "Actualizing Islamic Social Values for National Unity."“

Etymologically, the word actualization is a derivation from English. actual which mean real, existing in fact (something that is real, or based on reality) which in its terminological definition is an event that really happened and became a hot topic in the news. From the definition actual Above, the author tries to define that the actualization of Islamic social values in the integrity of the nation is a reality, which is oriented towards the relationship between Islamic values and social life in society, nation and state.

The presence of Islam in conquered territories has had a significant social impact on interactions and relationships within communities, both with adherents of other religions and beliefs. In reality, Islam has demonstrated a design of diversity and tolerance that cannot be denied by any nation.

Even the Western nations themselves, who currently claim that they are the nations that uphold tolerance. In Islam, the concept of tolerance or tasammuh It has been successfully implemented without any coercion between adherents of any religion, nation, tribe, or race. This is what makes Islam acceptable to all societies and nations.

In the Indonesian context, Islam, as the majority religion, is able to unite differences across cultures, ethnicities, races, tribes, and languages. These fundamental differences are indeed inevitable and difficult to avoid or challenge. As the majority religion, Islam is able to create noble socio-religious values that transcend cultural and linguistic differences.

However, efforts to minimize the value and role of Islam in the archipelago are still felt since the Dutch orientalist Snouck Hurgronje said that; Islam is a religion that cannot reconcile with modern civilization. Islam will only survive in the modern era unless one thing is done: transforming Muslim thinking into a radical understanding. That is, how to undermine the understanding of Islamic values into a rigid understanding that contradicts modernism.

Indonesia's cultural diversity is deeply ingrained in Pancasila, the state ideology, and its motto, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity). These have become icons of diversity and togetherness, fostering peace and prosperity for Indonesian society. How exactly has this symbol of diversity remained intact and strong to this day?

This is a secret that not many Indonesians understand. These elements of diversity possess noble values rooted in Islam, or more specifically, the Quran, as a guide and guide for life, uniting all differences, whether religious, cultural, linguistic, ethnic, or otherwise.

Recently, our nation has been shaken by various types of issues and negative propaganda Those who attempt to divide Indonesia's unity. Issues and propaganda that seek to undermine the values and tolerance that have long been framed by high religiosity. Perhaps we still remember how Australian propaganda attempted to disparage Indonesia's state ideology, Pancasila, by twisting it into "pancagila" and "lima dasar gila."“

This propaganda should not be carried out by a country that values bilateral cooperation with Indonesia. It seemed as if the Indonesian nation had lost its dignity in the eyes of the world. However, thanks to the decisiveness and courage of Indonesian National Armed Forces Commander General Gatot Nurmantyo, Indonesia ultimately severed military ties with Australia, and the Australian government was forced to apologize and investigate the alleged abuse.

When this nation is abused and humiliated, it is at this moment that the people and all elements of society unite under one command: to uphold the integrity of this nation. The government and society must not remain silent in defending the integrity of this Republic. Because, if the people and government do not act to defend this nation, the integrity of this nation and its social values will easily be colonized and abused.

Reflecting on the ideological foundation of this nation, Pancasila, its actualization aligns perfectly with the noble messages conveyed by Islam, which direct its followers to adhere to these noble values. This indicates that this foundation has been interpreted as a deep-rooted, deeply rooted in the souls of this nation's people.

The differences that constitute the diversity within this nation have been closely and strongly fostered by the values of tolerance between religions, cultures, customs, and languages. All of this blends into diversity and creates a philosophy of true brotherhood, both between religious communities and those of other faiths.

Let us take a moment to examine the phenomenon currently plaguing this nation. The ills of blasphemy, insults, corruption, harassment, and so on, come with slogans designed to divide the people and the nation's ideology, which has been built on Islamic values. This phenomenon presents a new challenge for the Indonesian nation and people, who previously lived in a strong sense of brotherhood.

The values embodied in Pancasila seem irrelevant to the nation's current progress. Yet, it is Pancasila's values that place diverse races, ethnicities, and religions within a region stretching approximately 5,000 kilometers from West to East, without discriminating against one group or group over another.

According to Komarudin Hidayat, if we agree to build a modern Indonesian household with the vast territory and ethnic and religious plurality that exists today, we must agree to adopt the same paradigm: that the Republic of Indonesia is our home, which we must protect together. Just like in a large house, each resident can occupy and decorate their own room, but they must not damage the neighboring rooms or even shake the entire structure.

What has been a national concern is now beginning to surface. These issues have become extremely complex and fraught with divisive and blasphemous values. The slogan of excessive tolerance is being promoted excessively. It's as if this nation is blind to tolerance, as if Islamic values are anti-tolerance or tasammuh.

The emergence of this nation's problems is actually due to a misunderstanding of the nation's long-held and defended philosophy. The emergence of various movements claiming to be pro-diversity seems to be an excuse to violate the values enshrined in Pancasila. This is what has triggered the disintegration of the nation that has been built over decades.

As a sovereign nation, Indonesia cannot afford to be careless in the face of the various propaganda currently surfacing. The ruling elite must now consider how to foster an understanding of the ideology and values of Pancasila, which seem to be drifting away from the intellectual and intellectual perspectives of the people.

If this is allowed to continue, then the propagandists who are trying to tarnish the values of Pancasila will continue to carry out their insolent actions, such as tarnishing, insulting and provoking the people to tarnish the face of this nation.

As the author has stated above, efforts to diminish the value and role of Islam in the archipelago have been felt since the days of the Dutch Orientalists. This is an open message, especially to the Muslim ethnic group, which now has a numerical advantage.

The de-Islamization efforts promoted by orientalists since the Dutch era are still gaining ground in Muslim-majority countries. This trend cannot be tolerated, as it would have fatal consequences for the unity of the nation. The people and society are now aware of the de-Islamization efforts and movements, which appear under various masks and forms.

To safeguard the nation's integrity, the fighters for Islamic ideology and values must be united in a unified struggle against the orientalists who seek to divide this nation. We must not appear weak and fragile in our efforts to frame togetherness and unity.

Ignite the spirit of struggle and resistance to uphold the Islamic values that are the foundation of this nation's development. Do not let this nation's values be destroyed simply by individuals in positions of power who, using their power, cause disharmony and hostility in the community's values and brotherhood.

In truth, the strength and glory of this nation rests in Islam, an undeniable fact. Seeing various attempts to obscure this, the public is drawn into and trapped by the historical deception continually promoted by propagandists. They are becoming increasingly bold in their attempts to influence the nation's younger generation with slogans of diversity and tolerance, seemingly dismissing Islam as a religion that lacks understanding of tolerance and diversity.

As Samuel P. Huntington stated at the beginning of the paragraph, Islam as a civilization that has rendered great service to the West during its dark ages, it is a real fact that Islam and its noble values have been able to create a great civilization that has become a unifying religion for all religious communities. Not only Islam itself, but also all religions other than Islam.

Thomas W. Arnold in his book “The Preaching of Islam” "You, O Muslims, are more beloved to us than the Romans, even though they share our religion. You are better at keeping your promises, kinder, more restrained from injustice, and better at protecting us, but they (the Romans) always coerce us." For a moment, after reading the non-Muslim confessions above, it can become a new fact that Islam is a religion that loves peace and peace.

Finally, from the various explanations regarding the Actualization of Islamic Social Values for National Unity, the author concludes that the Islamic values that have united this nation must be maintained and defended, not destroyed or desecrated. Anyone who creates propaganda intended to tarnish the image and philosophy of this nation must be immediately prosecuted and given appropriate punishment commensurate with their actions.
