Contemplation: A Reflection on Self-Reflection

“When we reach the peak of what we want, achieve what we strive for, the mental attitude that is appropriate to form is I'm grateful And humble"

Al-Ustadz Muhammad Badrun, MA

We start from the agreement that everything that happens (even what will happen), is already recorded in the heavenly records (read: lauhul mahfudz). So there is no accusation of latah that what happened to someone was solely the result of something he had done.

Although we (also) never deny that whatever a person does will have repercussions, retribution, whether in the form of sin or reward. Death is a certainty in the heavens, and no one knows when it will arrive. What is certain is that all events and occurrences are warnings, lessons for us all.

When we reach the peak of what we want, achieve what we strive for, the mental attitude that is worthy of being formed - hopefully it will be displayed - is gratitude and humble. Not proud, let alone arrogant!. God forbid!

As a manifestation of self-surrender to the celestial record taker who "apparently" has been with the blessings of His womb writing beautiful notes in the pages of his life's book. Without having to feel like he was writing it.

The Qur'an which is essentially calâmullah, is a super expression full of meaning and wisdom, We cannot know the certainty of its meaning and meaning except from His messenger, the Prophet Muhammad Rasulullah Saw. So don't let us catch one, two or three lessons because of our 'ability'. Then, we deny, or otherwise despise (not to say insulting) the catch wisdom others.

Moreover, we must interpret the Qur'an with a very subjective personal interpretation. tadabbari and we reflect, we interpret and we interpret, but not with intellectual excess.

The Qur'an was revealed correctly, correctly, and brings the truth.

وَبِٱلْحَقِّ أَنزَلْنَٰهُ وَبِٱلْحَقِّ نَزَلَ ۗ وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَٰكَ إِلَّا مُبَشِّرًو

It means: "And We sent down (the Koran) in truth and the Koran has been sent down with (bringing) the truth. And We did not send you, but as a bearer of good news and a warner" (QS. al-Isra: 105).[1]

In essence, conveying what is contained in it must always be within a framework. basyiran (deliver good news) and nadzîran (providing a warning). So that we don't fall into the trap of merely conveying subjective understandings that could tarnish the truth of the Qur'an.

Ultimately, humans sometimes need reflection, need to reflect for a moment, need contemplation to fit themselves into the harsh, hustle and bustle of life. Ambition that emerges with the nature buried must be dampened with contemplation, contemplation, or I'm grateful. This essence is important to understand as a shield for the self and soul, in order to present sa'âdah (happiness) and welcome basyiran (good news) from Him.
