Rizki Juniansyah, an Indonesian weightlifter, was overjoyed after winning a gold medal at the 2024 Olympics. His first experience competing in Paris left a lasting impression on him.
Early Friday morning, Rizki secured the gold medal with a total lift of 354 kg. He lifted 155 kg in the snatch and 199 kg in the clean and jerk, breaking the Olympic record for the clean and jerk.
With this achievement, Rizki became the first Indonesian lifter to win a gold medal at the Olympics, and also the youngest athlete from Indonesia to ever win a gold medal at the event.
Rizki's pride was undeniable. Despite this being his first Olympics, he felt he had no trouble adapting and was adapting well.
"I think adapting here is very easy. Meeting athletes from various countries has given me renewed enthusiasm and valuable experience," said Rizki.
Rizki also added that his opponents in the 73 kg class were very friendly, and he enjoyed interacting with them. Despite being in Paris, his main goal remains to bring home a gold medal for Indonesia, a country he has always dreamed of visiting.
For Rizki, Paris was an extraordinary place, allowing him to immediately showcase his best abilities in his Olympic debut. "Paris was truly amazing. This was my first Olympic experience, and I achieved my best," said Rizki.
In his success, Rizki feels like he is following in the footsteps of the Roman General Julius Caesar with his famous phrase, "Veni, Vidi, Vici" - come, compete, and win at the first opportunity.
