Liquor: The Mastermind of All Evil

Rasulullah ļ·ŗ said that alcoholic drinks or alcohol is the mother (brain) of all evil.

may Allah bless him and give him peace and blessings God bless you

"Khamr is the mother of the greatest abominations and sins. Whoever drinks Khamr can commit adultery with his mother, his mother's sister, or his father's sister." (HR: Ath-Thabrani)

Alcoholic beverages (miras) fall into the category of drinks that damage and diminish the function of reason. Meanwhile, reason must be protected from things that harm it. One of the goals of sharia in Islam is hifdz al-aql (protecting reason).

Today, we witness many forms of crime, criminality, immoral acts, and other crimes occurring in society due to the consumption of alcohol. Surprisingly, alcohol, a social ill, tends to be popular among teenagers and the younger generation.

Alcohol has become trend Among teenagers and young people, drinking alcohol is no longer seen as a dangerous 'disease'; instead, it's considered a normal beverage, just like coffee, tea, and various juices.

Islam strictly forbids alcoholic beverages. Not to mention drinking it, even sitting next to someone drinking is prohibited. Furthermore, people who visit places where alcohol is consumed are strictly prohibited. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) even cursed 10 groups of people who associate themselves with alcohol. These ten groups are:

First, who blackmailed him. Second, who asked to be squeezed. Third, who drinks it. Fourth, who brought it. Fifth, who brought it. Sixth, who poured it. Seventh, who sells it. Eighth, who eat the proceeds of the sale. Ninth, who bought it. Tenth, who asked to be bought. (Narrated by Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah).

This is confirmed in the Qur'an surah al-Maidah verse 90;

 "O you who believe, indeed (drinking) liquor, gambling, (sacrificing to) idols, drawing lots of fortunes with arrows are among the acts of the devil. So stay away from these acts so that you will gain good luck."

Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi in the book Halal wal Haram in Islam in the first chapter about Islamic Principles Concerning Halal and Haram, stated that Islamic teachings eliminate the difficulties faced by humans, eliminate superstition and adapting to culture (which is not in accordance with Islam).

Liquor (alcohol), superstition, gambling, not Islamic culture, but culture ignorance adopted by the West and transformed throughout the Islamic world. Therefore, if there are Islamic teachings that conflict with Western culture, they seek common ground, justify their actions, and offer defensive arguments or create compelling and distorted explanations.

No community supports the legalization, distribution, or sale of alcoholic beverages. Even if a region proposed such a measure, it would likely spark intense public opposition. The government, as the ultimate policymaker, must understand the public's concerns, particularly regarding alcohol.

If in a region there is a law that legalizes the distribution and sale of alcoholic beverages, it is certain that the region is far from being legal. baldatun tayyibatun warabbun ghafur. Because, in an environment where alcohol is present, generations will experience moral damage, morals, and a damaged future. Alcohol has no positive impact; the result is destruction and hostility.

If the younger generation becomes addicted to alcohol, other forms of crime will arise, such as adultery, rape, and even murder. Therefore, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was right when he said that alcohol... (wine) is the mother of evil. Ā

May we and our families be kept away from these forbidden drinks. AmƮƮn ya Rabbal alamƮƮn

Comment: It's interesting how drinking has become a trend among teenagers, despite its obvious dangers. What are your thoughts on the social impact of normalizing alcohol consumption among our youth?
